Design your own kitchen worktops using tiles and “Durastep DP” by Dural
Do you want a new look for your kitchen worktop? Modern tiles and the right profiles can make this an easy task. The current large format 60x60 tiles are perfect for the job.
Modern tiles in 60 x 60 or 60 x 30 cm formats are just the right size for designing kitchen work surfaces. They match the depth perfectly and only need a few joints along the width of the worktop. Combined with the new “Durastep DP” edging profile from Dural, they can make for a very generous and easy-to-clean base. This is particular simple for the modernisation of old kitchens. The existing worktops can simply be tiled over and tough aluminium profiles of the appropriate width make for elegant edging.
Fine ceramic, plain ceramic or even slimline natural stone tiles are ideal for such modifications, and are equally suitable for smaller formats, even down to mosaic-size. Whether they are to match the flooring or the colour of the kitchen units, or to add a touch of colour within the kitchen design – it’s up to you. One thing, however, is certain: kitchen renovations of this kind can be made swiftly, are extremely inexpensive and hardly ever result in lots of dirt or rubble.
The beautifully shaped “Durastep DP” aluminium profiles supplement virtually any modern kitchen fittings in outstanding fashion. Their robust design also carries a different warranty – after all, “Durastep DP” profiles are also used as edging for stairs. Manufacturer Dural offers the silver-anodised profiles in a variety of designs: with heights from 9 to 13.5 mm or from 45 to 50 mm – suitable for tiled worktops or for floor tiles.
“Covestar” for junctions with walls
Hygienic and with perfectly all-round looks, that’s how a newly tiled kitchen worktop can look if the “Covestar” for wall junctions is used, too. A narrow diagonal across the 90° junction makes junctions easy to clean and supersedes the old plastic junction, which seldom made for attractive looks. Such a “Covestar” solution can either be designed to use ceramic material like the tiles themselves or can use matching, 2.5-cm-wide “Duralis” metal profiles from the Dural range.
New opportunities for building workers
The topic also opens up new opportunities for specialist tile fitters. When renovating kitchens, tiling of worktops can be offered as an extra service. Apart from the great looks, other arguments such as time, cost and savings on labour can come into the equation. In addition, this is one way of making up for the decreasing call for tiled mirrors in kitchens, where the trend is increasingly towards tailor-made glass back walls.
Difficult cut-aways? It’s easy with modern water jet technology.
Rolf Helmis, owner of the company “Cerasell” in Ransbach-Baumbach, is currently getting excellent results with the “large-format” kitchen concept. In the newly opened showrooms of the company, which specialises in laying mosaics and in water jet technology, he is showing a cooking area with top options for future needs: The worktop is designed to use 60 x 60 cm, anthracite-coloured tiles, the wall junction uses “Covestar” and the wall at the back has a medium-grey glass design. “We have shown this solution to lots of customers since we opened the showroom and nearly all of them were thrilled with it.” says Rolf Helmis. Even difficult cut-aways that may need to be made in the large-format tiles – such as those for a hotplate, for taps, sinks or electric sockets – are no problem for “Cerasell”. The company specialises in the latest water jet techniques.
